Matthew Chapter 9 Verses 15-17

Jesus replied, “Do wedding guests mourn while celebrating with the groom? Of course not. But someday the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.”

‭‭

Before Jesus and in the old test image

The sole fast required by the Law of Moses was that of the great Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:26-32).  It is called “the fast” (Acts 27:9). This was a group time of serious reflection on their sins during the year and their sorrow before God.

There are occasions when special fasts were and should be called by leaders. These times of fasting are usually dictated by circumstance such as:

  1. sickness – Psalms 35:13,
  2. death – I Samuel 31:13,
  3. war or battle – Judges 20:24-28,
  4. conviction of sin – Ezra 10:3,
  5. realizing lost condition – Jonah 3:5,
  6. important decisions –Acts 13:2; 14:23.

Fasting was not meant for joyful and happy occasions that is why Jesus said “Do wedding guests mourn while celebrating with the groom? Of course not. But someday the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.”

‭‭Now the Pharisees didn’t fast for those reason they would fast twice a week just to make it clear to man to show how religious they were They would go out of their way to disfigure their faces so that someone would ask what was going on and this would give them the chance to let people know that they were fasting.

Jesus says here in Matthew 6 – 16

““And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face, Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”

‭‭

““Besides, who would patch old clothing with new cloth? For the new patch would shrink and rip away from the old cloth, leaving an even bigger tear than before. “And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the old skins would burst from the pressure, spilling the wine and ruining the skins. New wine is stored in new wineskins so that both are preserved.””

Here Jesus is saying that the way the Pharisees practice Judaism is like old clothing and old wine skins and he is introducing a new way and  the new way of Judaism is  not a patch because a patch can be torn away at the first washing which means if he just adds the new way into the old way it will just be washed away and forgotten but  but instead he is saying his new way is like a new wineskin to pour the new wine in so that the new way of Judaism is preserved which means that the new way of Judaism will last forever. The new way is the right way it’s not how the Pharisees do just for attention and praise but the new way is to give God the glory in what we do wether it’s to fast, pray, or even help someone we must do it for the glory of God not the glory of man

Matthew Chapter 8 Verse 14

Peter was the only one the Bible mentioned was actually married all the other apostles were assumed to most likely be married but it’s mentioned that Peter actually was married

A fever wasn’t just something curable and simple  back then it was a serious disease

Jesus healing peters mother in law was like a gift to peters wife and of course his mother in law

Because Jesus knew he would be taking Peter with him and they would be gone for a long time so he healed his mother in law from almost dying so that peters wife would have someone as Peter served the lord and followed Jesus through his ministry

Jesus could have easily told Peter no and said we have other people to tend to and heal but he didn’t because he knew his plans for Peter he knew he would have to leave his wife and family and it would have been even harder on his wife if her mother had passed away now in 1 Corinthians chapter 9 verse 5 it says “Don’t we have the right to bring a believing wife with us as the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers do, and as Peter does?”

This scripture indicated that many of the apostles was married as well as some of them including Peter brought along their wives as they traveled

I always believe that every time happens for a reason I believe that if jesus didn’t heal peters mother in law and she died then peters wife wouldn’t be stable enough to go with Peter when it was her time and due to that I believe Peter wouldn’t have done what he was called to do

Matthew Chapter 7 Verse 6

““Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.”
Matthew 7:6

Don’t waste what is holy on people who are not holy .

  • do not preach or forcefully teach the things of God to hostile unworthy people these are people that reject God or do not appreciate him.

Don’t throw your pearls to pigs!

-The pigs represent un sacred people and in clean people. Do not waste good things on people who do not appreciate them don’t give or offer something valuable to someone who does not understand its value. If you give a pig or a dog pearls they will not comprehend what it’s value is. How can you teach and give preaching about God and all that is holy to someone who does not understand or appreciate what you have to say just as a dog or pig does not appreciate the value of pearls You can try to give pigs and dogs pearls but you can’t force them to appreciate or comprehend the value and meaning of those pearls

They will trample the pearls

  • this means that when your preaching or talking about God to non believers even if they know deep down it’s the truth they will deny and become offensive because of what your saying and because your talking about God

 then turn and attack you.”

  • Back in the day people who didn’t believe in God or wasn’t Christian’s would kill prophets for Talking about god now a days what this means that when we talk or preach About God to non believers they become furious at the truth because they refuse to believe it and they will fight , argue , cuss and even try to hurt you

Now I’m not saying don’t preach it teach people about God what I’m saying is don’t argue or God upon someone who clearly doesn’t want to know or even hear about God . You can’t force someone into belief you can try but just as a dog returns to its vomit so will an unholy person return to its sin that is why God calls unholy people dogs and pigs because people who rejected God are un sacred and un clean just as a pig is and so of pig rolls in it’s own filth and even eats it’s own filth why would you think it would know the value of pearls?

Matthew Chapter 6 Verses 3 and 4

“But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.”Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭3‬ ‭

What this means is that God will bless you when you do things for the right reasons , when you help people that need it but you do it out of kindness of your heart do it without wanting to be blessed in return then and only then will you Heavenly Father bless you because you helped people for the right reasons .  Don’t help someone and post it everywhere because if you do that your not doing it for the right reasons your doing it to show the whole instagram or the world “ look at me I’m a Christian I helped this man or I fed the homeless “ just so they can say “ wow that’s a true Christian God bless you or why can’t I be like him He’s blessed” well that’s all there gonna get how can you do something just because you believe Gods going to bless you or because your expecting something in return if you think like that you won’t be blessed if anything you should do it for nothing in return because it says here in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” And when he did that he knew that not everyone would accept him and believe in him yet he still gave his one and only son for us so we should just feed and help his people as a thanks for him giving his son for our sins

2 Peter Chapter 3 Verse 9

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise , as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to
be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

Here in this verse, Peter is basically saying we cant rush the promises God made us He’s mot being slow in keeping His promise.
God is the one who made these promises to us : He cannot be “late.” or take to long because god has a perfect timing for everything every
second counts and even the small things that happen daily have a special time god made for them so we cant rush a promise god made for us
just because we want it now , we have to wait on gods time and even if gods time happens to be in 10 years from now he still isn’t late or slow
its actually right on time . we might not be ready now for those promises. We might have to change our ways , repent, forgive people, or even just simply
get closer to god . He doesn’t want us to be destroyed and maybe rushing that promise could possibly destroy us.

1 Thessalonians Chapter 5 Verse 17

”Never Stop Praying”

Now praying isn’t only about ASKING God for stuff, it’s also about giving THANKS to him for the things he’s already blessed us with. It’s also about just talking and communicating with him. Hosea chapter 6 verse 6 says ”I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me , more than I want burnt offerings” God’s clearly saying here that he rather have your love and for you to want to seek him and to want to know him rather than having you give a sacrifice or burnt offering to honor him. If we stop praying how will we ever make a relationship with God?
It’s simple if you love God and honor him then you have to show him and the way to show him is through worship and prayer. So we can’t stop praying not when we’re mad, happy, hurt, not even when we have everything we prayed for , because how will we thank God for the things he blesses us with or tell him the burdens we have or tell him the hurt we have in our hearts or how will we ever have a relationship with him if we never talk to him?

Welcome to Verse By Verse

what is our mission?

Our mission is to help Christians and ever day people understand the Bible one day at a time.

Why :

As I become closer to God I started to realize that every verse is not as simple as it seems . There is a deeper meaning in every verse or every chapter. No one except God showed me that so I want to help those who are navigating the Bible on their own . I’m still learning so hopefully we can learn together.

What?

Here I will be showing my research and what i learned from every scripture, verse, and chapter I read. I will also be breaking down scriptures people need help with so if you need help understanding a scripture please email and I will help the best I can!
